A purpose built 3 storey Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) in Bedford, comprisingĀ of over 1200mĀ² of new floor space.
The design seeks to reconcile the varying aspirations of the community and thus the interior is designed to take advantage of the comfort and flexibility offered by modern layouts, construction, and technology. There was a strong desire to have a building to be proud of, with reference to the birthplace of Sikhism and the many Gurdwaras found in India and elsewhere worldwide.
The material tones and colours are chosen to recall traditional Gurdwara buildings, the gold-coloured modern cladding form to the two-storey block infuses a further modern element whilst borrowing the colour from the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
