St Christopher’s School

The works consisted of a new build extension and the redevelopment of existing internal spaces. The project presented a huge challenge from a design perspective, with an extremely tight construction budget and high client aspirations. SO architects provided full services from RIBA Stage A-L.

The extension facilitated the decanting of administration accommodation from the existing building and allowed further facilities to be provided in the existing school, including the remodelling of the main reception area. The scheme also presented the opportunity to provide much needed facilities for disabled users.

An important aspect of the project the brief was the creation of a focal point for the main school entrance. This was achieved by utilising a palette of materials which intentionally contrasted with external fabric of the existing building; and through the use of the School colour to provide a powerful visual statement.
